Going on Vacation? Tips for Leaving Your Dog Behind

Today, I’ll be sharing valuable tips for leaving your dog during an extended vacation for a stress-free trip. This video was inspired by my own experiences while taking care of pets when friends went on vacation, leaving their dogs with me for a few days in their home or bringing them to mine. Let’s get into it! Before you leave, it’s crucial to introduce your dog to the person who will be taking care of them. This helps create a bond, gives you an idea of how well they interact, and ensures a successful vacation for both you and your pet. If your furbaby is going to be left at the caregiver’s home, make sure to make time for them to bond together in that space so they will both be comfortable. It’s essential to provide accurate contact information. Make sure the person caring for your dog has up-to-date phone numbers for you, your vet, and a person who can step in for you. Make sure that any medications or medical needs are clearly discussed and if special needs or requests are agreeable to the sitter. Leave clear instructions and enough of your dog’s familiar food for feeding the whole time you are gone. Include how much and when your dog eats. Don’t forget to include your dog’s usual treats to keep their diet consistent. Changing their diet abruptly could lead to stomach issues. Also, make sure to provide your dog’s leash and any necessary items for outdoor activities. Consider leaving a towel, waste bags, or any other supplies that might be needed to tend to your pup’s daily needs. And lastly, provide a comfortable sleeping area for your dog. A familiar bed and favorite toys will help them feel at home. By keeping these points in mind, you can ensure you have peace of mind, and your dog has an enjoyable and stress-free vacation. Thank you for watching, and I hope these tips make your time away from your furry friend a breeze.
